Solid State Tesla Coil, mk I (aka: SSTCmkI)

Handley's work into the realm of coil winding and oscillation circuitry to form a high-frequency solid-state tesla coil...

Utilizing a main unit with all the circuitry comfortably shielded from the RF energy given off from the running coil and a "dead-man's" switch on a lanyard even further from the device, this SSTC is quite impressive. All of the internals in the main unit are modular, so it is both easy to debug as well as upgrade in the future for other uses, such as adding audio modulation.

- Currently, this unit still has the habit of obliterating the mosfets on the half-bridge board (though it's impressive when they blow, it is not the desired effect I want when I throw the switch...). The failing of the mosfets is currently due to the lack of a variac to soft-start the circuitry. The current plan is to either redesign the half bridge to slowly start up with each AC cycle via a supporting mosfet setup... or to find a variac, which will be handy for other uses as well.

For now, the unit awaits, intimidating all who pass the workbench...
